August Canoeing Campout

Enjoy some time on the Maquoketa River and a night of camping on August 20 and 21 when Troop 2000 camps at the Apache campground on the Camp Courageous property near Monticello, Iowa. We will leave from Coralville on the morning of August 20th, check in at the camp, and then canoe for approx. 8 miles on the Maquoketa River. Scouts will have an opportunity to complete rank advancement and merit badge requirements (completing this trip meets req. 9b4 of Camping Merit Badge).

To prepare for the canoeing Scouts will be required to complete two of three training sessions from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on August 4, 9, and 18 at Lake MacBride. All participants (adults included) must wear lifejackets, pass a swim test, and attend the training sessions. The training will require proficiency in a 100-yard course and recovering from capsizing. Scouts under 14 need to have an adult in their canoe, so a parent/guardian should plan to attend with them.

The cost is $40 for Scouts and $40 for adults. Sign-up by August 5 using this link
